Cinchy.me is an innovative recruitment platform specifically designed for the construction industry. The platform features an advanced Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to simplify hiring for recruiters and provides a robust tool for applicants to manage their job search journey. Additionally, it serves as a secure repository where candidates can store, manage, and share their experience, qualifications, and certifications with potential employers.

My goal was to redesign the platform’s user experience and interface to address existing pain points, streamline processes for users, and create a modern, intuitive design that meets the unique demands of the construction industry.

My Role

As the lead UI/UX designer for this project, I was responsible for:

• Conducting user research to identify key pain points.

• Developing a comprehensive UX strategy to address user needs.

• Designing an intuitive interface aligned with the platform’s goals and brand identity.

Challenges

Lack of Progress Tracking
Candidates had no visibility into their progress through the recruitment process, leading to frustration and uncertainty.

Document Management
Candidates couldn’t track the expiration of certifications and documents, creating risks of outdated information.

Role Definition for Administrators
There was no system in place to define roles and permissions for different administrative levels, from campaign tracking to candidate and employee management.

Plan of Action

1. Refine User Flow:

   • I restructured the user flow for candidates, employers, and administrators to ensure smooth navigation, intuitive interactions, and enhanced usability.

2. Enhance Employer Journey:

   • Designed a secure, informative, and streamlined process for employers to manage job postings, review applications, and interact with candidates seamlessly.

3. Optimize Admin Journey:

   • Developed a robust management system for administrators to oversee tasks ranging from individual job listings to company-wide campaigns, ensuring control over complex recruitment scenarios.

4. Modernize UI:

   • Updated the entire user interface to align with brand guidelines, introducing modern design elements for a visually appealing and user-friendly experience.

Target Metrics

Difficult Choices

Flat Structure vs. Hierarchical Design
Striking a balance between easy access to information and avoiding screen clutter was key. A hybrid design ensured data was layered effectively, keeping critical information easily accessible without overwhelming the user.

Brand Colors
The strong yellow brand color posed a challenge. I chose to retain it as an accent in the desktop dashboard while giving it prominence in the mobile app. This approach highlighted key information while creating a comfortable, inviting interface.

Key Features Implemented

1. Clean Navigation

   • Step-by-step guides ensured clarity and ease of use.

   • Individual progress bars for profile sections improved navigation and tracking.

   • Advanced job search filters made finding relevant opportunities effortless.

2. Progress Tracking

   • Candidates can now monitor their application status in real-time.

   • A document tracker ensures uploaded certifications remain up-to-date.

   • Saved and applied jobs are easily accessible for better organization.

3. Candidate Management for Employers

   • Employers can track candidate status, leave comments, and manage mandatory documents effectively.

   • Roles and permissions for hiring managers were defined, ensuring seamless collaboration within companies.

4. Accessibility and Optimization

   • The platform is fully A11y optimized, offering features such as screen reader compatibility and keyboard navigation, ensuring inclusivity. The design is also optimized for responsiveness across devices, providing a smooth experience for all users.

Conclusion

The redesign of Cinchy.me transformed it into a modern, efficient, and user-focused platform tailored to the construction industry. By addressing pain points and implementing thoughtful design solutions, the platform now provides a seamless experience for candidates, recruiters, and administrators alike.
